Gusty Winds and Severe Weather Possible for Wednesday

It’s that time of year folks, we are into the Spring severe weather season and we have a system that we are going to be watching closely. Expect a quiet day today with clouds and temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. Temperatures will surge throughout the day on Wednesday…

Temperatures will rise to the mid 70s with some folks possibly hitting that 80 degree mark. This will come at a price though as strong to severe storms will develop late tomorrow evening and through the overnight hours…

The Storm Prediction Center has made some adjustments to tomorrow’s severe weather risk. As of now, the Lake Cumberland Area is in a level 2 “Slight Risk” while Hopkinsville and points south and west are in a level 3 “Enhanced Risk”. Things could still be adjusted as we get closer to the event, but understand that all of the area has the potential of seeing strong to severe storms tomorrow night and the early morning hours of Thursday.

Very gusty winds are possible tomorrow, even outside of any thunderstorms. Winds could gust as high as 55mph at times tomorrow.

Here’s the latest future radar for tomorrow. This newest run has a line of storms moving into the area between 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. This is all subject to change as we get closer to the event.

Here’s my latest thinking on the severe weather threats for tomorrow. The tornado threat is low and much higher to the west and south of our region, but the risk is not zero. Clearly the highest threat will be very gusty winds both with and without storms tomorrow. Since this will more than likely be a late night event, it would be a good time to make sure you have a good way of receiving warnings should they be issued. The best way is a NOAA weather radio that will wake you up should a warning be issued. Make sure to check that your Wireless Emergency Alerts or WEA on your smartphones are enabled. I will be on the air tomorrow night should any watches or warnings be issued for our area.
