Snow, frigid temps make for hazardous travel around county

With snow accumulations around the county of as much as seven inches in some areas of the county, along with temperatures well-below freezing, travel across the county has been treacherous in some areas.

Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston said the sheriff’s department worked several motor vehicle accidents yesterday due to hazardous road conditions.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 8 office continues to advise motorists to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary in order to give road crews an opportunity to work on the highways and secondary roads.

Road crews will continue to be out working today, as no more snow is expected, but frigid temperatures will prevent existing snow from melting.
