School board votes to remain mask optional

Masks will remain optional in Russell County Schools for students, teachers, staff, and visitors.

The board of education voted 4-1 at its meeting Monday night to keep the mask-optional policy that was adopted several weeks ago.

Superintendent Michael Ford recommended the board keep the mask optional policy in place, with the lone “no” vote being cast by board member Sheila Wicker.

Masks are still required on school buses per a CDC order and at the Lake Cumberland Regional College and Workforce Center per a KDE order.
