Marshall D. Popplewell, age 85, of Russell Springs

Marshall D. Popplewell, of Russell Springs, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Fair Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was 85 years of age.

Born August 7, 1936, in Russell County, he was a son of the late Henry and Edna McGowan Popplewell. Marshall was a dock worker at Alligator 1 Marina for 45 years and a cattle farmer. He was a devoted member of Square Oak Separate Baptist Church. Marshall loved his family and enjoyed “picking” on his kids and grandkids.

Survivors include his dear wife, Betty Gadberry Popplewell of Russell Springs, whom he married April 9, 1955; one son, Brother Doug (and Gail) Popplewell of Russell Springs; two daughters, Melody (and David) Hadley of Jamestown, and Carolyn (and Jerry) Goodin of Columbia; six grandchildren, Brother David (and Melissa) Tucker, Laura (and Jon) Lacy, Jill Popplewell, Jason (and Janal) Popplewell, Daniel (and Brianne) Hadley, and Noah Hadley (and Haley Cook); and seven great-grandchildren, Dylan Tucker, Jalyn Tucker, JonAustin Lacy, Titus Popplewell, Kambree Popplewell, Ben Hadley, and Brody Popplewell. Survivors also include three brothers, Erthel Popplewell of Russell Springs, J.C. (and Melinda) Popplewell of McKenzie, Tennessee, and Clifton (and Jenny) Popplewell of Cadiz; and two sisters, Rosie Zimmerman of Norwood, Ohio, and Juanita (and Steve) Foley of Columbia.In addition to his parents, Marshall was preceded in death by one sister, Addelien Dunbar.

Funeral services are 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Bernard Funeral Home with Brother Bobby Connor, Brother Mark Polston, and Brother David Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Square Oak Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, December 6, 2021, at Bernard Funeral Home.

Marshall’s pallbearers will be Dylan Tucker, Jalyn Tucker, JonAustin Lacy, Titus Popplewell, Kambree Popplewell, Ben Hadley, and Brody Popplewell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Square Oak Separate Baptist Church Building Fund.
