Laker Boys Get First Win, Defeat Letcher County Central 60-53

The Russell County Laker boys basketball team picked up their first win of the season Tuesday, defeating Letcher County Central by a score of 60 to 53 in the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic at Pulaski County High School in Somerset.

Owen Loy led the Lakers in scoring with 28 points, hitting 13 of 18 from the free throw line.  Mayes Gosser had 10 points and 14 rebounds, to go along with 3 steals and a pair of blocks. Trace Stringer also finished in double figures, scoring 13 points.

The Lakers made a living at the free throw line, knocking down 26 of 35 free throws on the night, while Letcher County finished 4 of 12 from the line.

The Lakers, now 1-9 on the season, are scheduled to play again in the tournament on Wednesday against Pulaski County, who enters undefeated at 14-0 and one of the top 10 teams in the state. The game will tip off at 5 p.m. CT at Pulaski County High School.
