School board approves change in masking plan

The Russell County Board of Education approved an amendment to the school district’s plan for in-person instruction in the midst of COVID-19.

Per the new amendment, masks will be required when the county is in red status in terms of COVID incidence rate from the state. The status on Thursdays will determine whether masks are required or optional for the following week. Per the CDC, masks will still be required on buses and the state requires masks at the Lake Cumberland Regional College and Workforce Center.

The board voted 4-1 in favor of the amendment. Sheila Wicker, Dick Kazsuk, Brenda Higginbotham, and Gerald Murray voted in favor of the amendment to the school plan. Joy Wilson voted no.
