RCMS Girls basketball had busy weekend

The Russell County Middle School Girls Basketball teams had a busy weekend.

The 8th grade team took down Morton Middle School 43-4 in pool play of the state tournament on Saturday and then went down to the wire with Southwestern, falling short by a score of 38-35. Aniyah Coffey led the team in scoring for both games with a combined 28 points.

On Sunday, the 8th grade team made it to the Elite 8 of the State Tournament, knocking off Pineville by a score of 42-15 before falling to Pulaski County by a score of 58-44. Aniyah Coffey again led the team in scoring both games with a combined 39 points in the two games.

On Saturday, the 7th graders lost to Taylor County in the Elite 8 of the state tournament 34-22.

The 6th grade team finished second in the CKMSAC Conference Tournament. The team beat Campbellsville 14-11, then lost to Adair County 26-8.

The 7th and 8th grade teams will play in the conference tournament on Monday beginning at 5 p.m.
