Lady Laker Volleyball falls in 5 sets in district championship

The Lady Laker Volleyball team fell just short in their bid for a 16th District Championship on Tuesday, falling in five sets to Clinton County.

The two teams alternated victories with Clinton County winning the first and third sets, and Russell County winning the second and fourth sets before Clinton County came away with a 15-9 victory in the fifth set.

Senior Sophie Shearer and sophomore Briley Murray were named to the All-District team.

The Lady Lakers finished as the 16th District runner-ups and will wait to find out their first-round opponent for next week’s regional tournament in Russellville.

As a district runner-up, the Lady Lakers will take on either Allen County-Scottsville (15th district champion), Logan County (13th District champion) or the winner of the 14th District, which won’t be crowned until Thursday.
