On August 29th, at approximately 10:25 p.m., Trooper Austin Cornett was conducting a traffic safety check on Highway 80 and Owenstown School Road when he came in contact with 49-year-old Daniel Nelson of Russell Springs.
Nelson was operating a 2019 GMC pickup. Tpr. Cornett noticed the driver appeared to be impaired and a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in Troopers locating a marijuana joint, approximately two ounces of suspected methamphetamine, several ziploc bags of marijuana, a digital scale, glass pipes, and over $10,000 cash.
Nelson was arrested and charged with DUI 1st, failure to notify address change to the department of transportation, trafficking in a marijuana more than 8 ounces, trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to produce insurance card.
Nelson was lodged in the Russell County Detention Center.
