Masks, social distancing no longer required in schools

As Kentucky’s mask mandate was mostly lifted on Friday, students in Kentucky schools will no longer be required by the state to wear masks when they return to classrooms in August.

Individuals who choose to wear a mask as a matter of personal preference or comfort should be allowed to continue to do so, according to the Kentucky Department of Education. The Kentucky Department for Public Health recommends, but does not require, that schools continue to follow CDC guidance.

The CDC will update its guidance for the 2021-22 school year in the coming weeks.
