Russell County High School Boys Basketball Coach Billy Carson has resigned from his coaching position, according to Athletic Director Michael Carpenter.
The KHSAA dead period begins Friday, June 25, so Carson had a meeting with Carpenter and the team on Thursday informing them of his resignation.
Carpenter told WJRS that the administrative team at the school plans to meet in the next week or two to discuss the next steps moving forward about naming an interim coach, beginning a coaching search, etc.
Carson was coach of the Lakers for four seasons, compiling a total record of 46-76 at the helm of the program. In 2018, the Lakers won the 16th District Tournament and advanced to the 4th Region Semifinals.
