The Russell County Lady Lakers bid to win their fourth consecutive district championship was not to be, as they lost to Metcalfe County Friday in the 16th District championship game at Cumberland County. The Lady Lakers trailed by as many as 13, but came back to tie the store, and take the lead for just a short period of time in the second half before the Lady Hornets hit some free throws down the stretch to seal the district championship.
The Lady Lakers will take on top ranked Bowling Green on Thursday night in the opening round of the 4th regional tournament. Under the format this year, the district winning teams will host first round action. Russell County’s game at Bowling Green on Thursday will start at 7 o’clock. Jeff Hoover will have all the action on Laker Country 1049 WJRS beginning around 6:45 Thursday.
