Need for blood donations is at an all-time high

The combination of winter weather and the COVID-19 pandemic has made things difficult for the Kentucky Blood Center, as they continue to supply hospitals in Kentucky with blood for emergency needs.

Representatives from the Kentucky Blood Center spoke with WLKY in Louisville about the need for blood donations, which is at an all-time high.

The agency sent about 8,000 units of blood to more than 70 hospitals in the month of January. It’s the most KBC has ever supplied in one month during its 52-year history.

The Red Cross is offering $5 Amazon gift cards to Kentuckians who sign up, via the Red Cross app or website for a February appointment.

People who are interested in donating via the Red Cross can also call 1-800-Red-Cross.
