The Russell County Lady Lakers and Laker Boys swept a doubleheader at Laker gym Friday night defeating Rockcastle County.
In the girls game, the Lady Lakers trailed at the end of the first quarter 10-7, led at halftime by score of 25 to 22, led 37-35 at the end of three quarters, before holding on for a 46 to 42 victory.
Senior guard Star Marcum led the way for the Lady Lakers with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Juliah Bault and Rachel Bolin had nine points each. The Lady Lakers, now 7 and 9 on the season, will be on the road Saturday at Logan County.
In the boys game, the Lakers trailed 15 to 12 at the end of the first quarter, but then never looked back, picking up the win over Rockcastle county, 66 to 40. Jay Milburn led the Lakers with 22 points, 18 of those coming in the first half, including the first 12 Laker points. Milburn also had 15 rebounds. Senior guard Clay Anderson came off the bench to score 17 points, while Scott Hamm had 12 points, all coming in the second half, to go along with his 9 rebounds.
The Lakers will be in action Saturday when they host district opponent Clinton County. Game time set for 5 o’clock.
