Columbia Police respond to man lighting fire at KSP Post

The Columbia Police Department responded to a suspicious vehicle at Kentucky State Police Post 15 on Tuesday night, February 16, 2021.

The call originated after Post Dispatcher contacted Adair 911 stating a male subject was in a truck in the parking lot attempting to light an unknown object on fire. Columbia Police responded as on duty troopers were out of county on unrelated traffic in Russell Springs.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male subject who clearly had thick smoke coming from the interior of his truck cab. Officers advised the suspect to exit vehicle at which time subject refused. The suspect then became agitated at officers and when told again to exit, he again refused and stated he was armed.

It was at this time the subject was forced out of vehicle and began to fight with officers while being placed into custody. While he was actively resisting, officers located a firearm on subject’s person, which was quickly secured and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Ryan Pilling, 32, of Edmonton, is facing numerous charges including public intoxication, menacing, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and assault 3rd degree, a class D felony.

Officer Adam Cravens was the arresting officer. He was assisted on scene by Officer Drew Conn, Deputy Justin Cross and Deputy Chandler Staten.
