RCHS Student Drowned Monday

Another tragedy on Lake Cumberland has claimed another life, this time of a young Jamestown boy.

Authorities tell WJRS NEWS that 17-year-old Tyler Grant was swimming near Clifty Creek Boat Ramp yesterday afternoon with several friends when he began to struggle, could not make it back to shore, and went under.   Russell County EMS received a call shortly after 4 o’clock and dispatched Jamestown Fire Department personnel and the Russell County Search and Rescue squad to the scene.   Grant’s body was recovered in about 55 feet of water, according to County Emergency Management Director H. M. Bottom.  Coroner Mark Coots told WJRS NEWS he received the call around 5 0’clock.

Grant would have been Senior at Russell County High School.

School superintendent Michael Ford told WJRS NEWS last evening that grief counselors will be available today (Tuesday) at the high school to meet with students and families.   Ford encouraged those wanting counseling services to call the school district at 343-3191 and a counselor would be contacted.   Grant is survived by his parents Brian and Teresa Grant of Jamestown
