School Calendar to be Discussed at Tonight’s School Board Meeting

When will school start back for the next school year?   That is a question that remains unanswered, but it appears an answer is expected soon.  During tonight’s meeting of the Russell County School Board, which will be held virtually, one item on the agenda is a revision to the previously adopted calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.

Superintendent Michael Ford is expected to recommend to the board a variable student instructional year, which will mean the same number of hours of instruction for students, but fewer days at school.   The most likely start date, with board approval, would be August 26th.

Also, Governor Andy Beshear and state Department of Education officials are expected to have an announcement later today with recommendations for school and suggested start dates.  WJRS NEWS will have more details on this tomorrow.
