Unemployment Continues to Rise

Kentucky’s unemployment claims continue to soar at staggering rates.

Last week, 69 thousand more initial claims were filed, bringing the 8-week total to over 742 thousand. Kentucky’s total labor force is around 2 million. Nationally, almost 40 percent of all households earning less than 40 thousand dollars a year lost their jobs in March.

Russell County’s most recent unemployment number was 7.3%, compared to Adair County at 7.2%, Wayne County at 7.4%, and Clinton County at 6.9%
