Two Shot in Jabez Community Friday

With that dispatch from the Russell County 9-1-1 center around 4:20 yesterday afternoon, emergency personnel and law enforcement responded to a residence in the Jabez community after shots were reportedly fired at two individuals.

Sheriff Derek Polston reports that members of the sheriff’s department responded to the scene on Hicks road in the Jabez. Two males, the names of which were not immediately available last evening, reportedly had non life-threatening injuries to their backs, sides and leg areas.

Sheriff Polston said the wounds appeared to be consistent with a shotgun blast.

A search warrant was obtained for a residence, resulting in the location of a shotgun and other items. James M. Chapman, age 68 of Hicks Lane in Jabez, was charged by Deputy Nathan Ginn with two counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st degree, Class D felonies.

The matter is still under investigation and more charges against Chapman could be forthcoming. Assisting at the scene were members of the Russell County Sheriff’s office, Kentucky State Police,  Russell County EMS, along with Air Medical Services.
