The unemployment rate in Russell County fell slightly in December, 2019 as compared to one year earlier. According to statistics released by the Kentucky Center for Statistics, an agency of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, the county’s unemployment rate last month was 5.4%, down from 5.7% a year ago. The center says there are just over 58 hundred persons currently in the work force in Russell County.
Adair County’s unemployment rate rose slightly over the same period, increasing to 4.8% from 4.5% the year earlier. Statewide, unemployment rose in 56 counties, fell in 46 counties, and stayed the same in 18 counties for the period of December, 2018 thru December, 2019. Taylor County had the lowest unemployment rate in the area at 3.5%, followed closely by Casey County at 3.6% unemployment.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends, rather than actually count people working.
