A traffic violation resulted in meth charges for a Columbia woman on Wednesday evening. Just before 10 pm Officer Ethan Pike and Officer Nathan Antle conducted a traffic stop on a 2004 Kia for disregarding a stop sign. Throughout the stop officers observed indications of possible impaired driving.
After a standardized field sobriety test was given, LaTessa L. Akers, 22, of Columbia, was arrested. During a search, an amount of a white crystal substance consistent with methamphetamine was located, along with an orange pill identified to be suboxone. Akers was charged with Disregarding a Stop Sign, Operating Motor Vehicle Under the influence alcohol/drugs/etc., Possession Controlled Substance 1st degree 1st offense Meth, and Possession Controlled Substance 2nd degree drug unspecified.
Akers was lodged in the Russell County Detention Center. Officer Pike and Officer Antle were assisted on scene by KSP Trooper Billy Begley.
