The Russell County Detention Center had an average inmate population of 138 for the month of September. In speaking to the fiscal court earlier this week, Jailer Bobby Dunbar said, that at the time of the meeting, there were 74 state inmates, two Clinton county inmates and 50 Russell County inmates, for a total of 126 lodged in the local jail.
During the meeting, Sheriff Derek Polston, in his monthly report to the court, said the sheriff’s office responded to 593 calls for service and made 13 mental health transports, served 148 papers and executed six search warrants bringing the yearly total of search warrants to 29. The sheriff’s office worked nine injury accidents during September and made 200 school safety checks, according to Polston.
Court security deputies transporting inmates to and from county drove a total of 6,747 miles for the month.
