Adair Man Airlifted to UK Following Logging Accident

A logging accident in neighboring Adair County sent a Pellyton man to the University of Kentucky Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred 16 miles east of Columbia in the Neatsville community. Adair County 911 received a call just before 2 pm notifying them that David Miller, age 23, had been struck by a large limb.

According to witness statements given to the sheriff’s office, Miller was cutting a tree down for harvest when a large limb came down unexpectedly. The Adair Sheriff’s Office said another logger attempted to alert Miller of the falling limb, but chainsaw noise hampered notification. The limb struck Miller in the head, with the impact destroying his hard hat.

Due to the distance and rough terrain at the site, the Adair County Fire Department, Knifley Fire Department and Adair Emergency Management were all called out to assist.

EMS worked to stabilize Miller and treated him on scene before transporting him to a landing zone at a local church. From there, Miller was loaded into an emergency helicopter and transported to Lexington for treatment.
