Three persons were seriously injured in a two-vehicle, head-on collision late Thursday afternoon near Fairview.

Deputy Sheriff Nick Bertram told WJRS NEWS the collision occurred on Kentucky 80, east of Russell Springs, when a 2012 Toyota Camry driven by 50 year old Troy Stephens crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 1997 Chevy Geo Metro being driven by 16 year old Kobe George.  Kobe’s mother, Melissa George, was a front seat passenger while his dad, Randy, was riding in the back seat.  Stephens was traveling alone.

Kobe & Melissa George were airlifted from the scene while Troy Stephens was flown from the Russell County Hospital, all three transported by emergency helicopter to the U.K. Medical Center for treatment.

Randy George was checked out by EMS personnel at the scene but declined to be transported to a medical facility.

The collision occurred at 5:14 p.m. and resulted in traffic being stopped on East Kentucky 80 for more than an hour while emergency personnel worked the scene.

The cause of the wreck remains under investigation by Deputy Bertram.
