Several Dogs Perish In Thursday Afternoon Fire

Several dogs were killed in a fire Thursday afternoon in southern Russell County.

The South Russell Fire Department was called to the residence of David & Krista Grider on Dixon Cemetery Road, near the fire department’s headquarters, just after 1:00 p.m. after a neighbor discovered an outbuilding on the Grider’s property was on fire.

The building also had a large dog kennel attached.

Fire Chief Roger Dale Coffey told WJRS NEWS two dogs were rescued….but several perished in the blaze.
