Mechanical Malfunction Blamed For Truck Striking Utility Pole, Injuring Young Boy

A one vehicle crash in the Middletown community late Sunday morning injured a young boy.

RSPD Officer Jeremy West told WJRS NEWS the incident occurred just before 11:00 a.m. in front of Lakeway Motors when a 1997 Chevy S-10 truck, driven by Gary Shannon Robertson of Russell Springs, experienced a mechanical problem in the steering system, resulting in the vehicle veering off of U.S. 127 and striking a utility pole.

A passenger in the truck, 9 year old Hunter Carnes, was transported by ambulance to the Russell County Hospital emergency room for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.   Robertson was checked out at the scene by Russell County EMS personnel but declined transportation and further treatment.
