Laker Sports Report, Thursday, April 6th

Here are some results from the Laker Baseball Ripken Expierence in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, April 5th. The Varsity defeated North Laurel in 9 innings 6-5. Justin Womack had a walk off 2 RBI single to win the game, best winning pitcher.

In JV the Lakers defeated Madisonville 8-1. Justin Withers was the winning pitcher.


A former Laker basbelall player was named player of the week in his college conference this week.

Asbury (Ky.) University infielder Colton Back hit .579 last week to earn River States Conference Baseball Player of the Week March 27-April 3.

The freshman had 11 hits in five games (11 for 19) as Asbury went 4-1 overall and 3-1 RSC for the week. The Eagles won three of four conference games versus CCU with Back collecting nine hits in the series.

A highlight was going 6 for 6 in game two of the CCU series, one of his three multi-hit games on the week, and it also included four RBIs. He totaled six runs, eight RBIs and a walk for the week.

Back is leading Asbury hitting .364 on the year and currently 3rd overall in the conference in on base percentage at .484

Colton, currently a freshman at Asbury University, is a graduate of Russell County High and the son of Pat Back and Jamie McQueary
