Laker Sports Report, Monday, May 15th

Former Russell County Laker baseball player Colton Back was named to the all conference 2nd team in the River States Baseball Conference as a member of the Eagles of Asbury University. The awards were held this weekend in Chillicohte, Ohio. Back appeared in 47 games this season and was second on the team in batting average .338, He picked up 46 hits in 136 at bats and hit 8 doubles on the year with 27 RBI’s. He went 10-10 in stolen bases. In conference Back hit .338 with on base percentage of .452 with 10 stolen bases, 29 runs scored also, Back was named conference player of the week one week as well as runner up conference freshman of the year. Colton’s coach had this to say: ” Colton was an excellent addition to our team this year. He works hard, plays the game the right way, and is willing to do whatever he can to help the team. We look forward to seeing him continue to improve and make a big impact towards our teams future success. Colton is the son of Pat Back of Russell Springs and Jamie McQueary of Columbia.

Maddie McQueary 5th place in 100m hurdles. State qualifier

Jared Sanders 4th place 110m hurdles

Girls 4×200 relay 4th place. State qualifier, Kiara Cowan, Maggie Gossage, Maddie McQueary, Kaitlyn Coffey

Boys 4×200 relay 6th place. State qualifier, JT Smith, Dontay Taylor, David McGuffey, Mason Miller

Boys 4×100 relay 6th place, JT Smith, Dontay Taylor, David McGuffey, Jared Sanders

Girls 400m dash 4th place Kaitlyn Coffey. State qualifier

Boys 400m dash 5th place Mason Miller. State qualifier

Girls 300m hurdles 4th place Maddie McQueary. State qualifier

Girls 4×400 relay 4th place. State qualifier, Maddie McQueary, Kiara Cowan, Maggie Gossage, Kaitlyn Coffey

Boys 4×400 relay 6th place, Mason Miller, Dontay Taylor, JT Smith, David McGuffey

The state track meet will be held Friday evening at the UK Track ands Field Stadium. Congratulations to these athletes and good luck at state.
