Tyler L Brower,  age 27, of Columbia,  passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015. Funeral Services for Tyler Brower will be at 2:00 pm CT, Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel in Jamestown with Bro. Herl D. Robertson, Bro. Johnny Rexroat and Bro. Wayne Keith officiating. Friends may visit after 11:00 am CT  Wednesday at the funeral home. Glasgow Man Arrested on Drug Charges in Russell County...

On Monday, July 27, 2015 an investigation by Russell County Sheriff Clete McAninch and Detective Joey Hoover resulted in the arrest of a Barren County man for Trafficking in Methamphetamine. Armando Joseph Candela, 32, of Glasgow was arrested just before 8:00 p.m. on Maple Street after arriving in Russell Springs to deliver “crystal meth”. The investigation resulted in the seizure of approximately 10 grams of “crystal methamphetamine”, digital scales, $319 cash and drug paraphernalia items from inside Candela’s car. The vehicle was also seized. Candela was charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree-Meth and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Candela was processed and lodged in the Russell County Detention Center....

Thomas W. Polston, age 58, of Jamestown

Thomas W. Polston, age 58 of Jamestown, died July 18th.   Survivors include one brother:  Phillip Polston of Jamestown.   A gathering of friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 at H. E. Pruitt Memory Chapels in Jamestown.   Family requests that donations be made to the Thomas W. Polston Memorial Fund and those can be made at the funeral home.

Former Russell County Resident Killed Early Sunday Morning...

A former Russell County man is dead after being struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning on Highway 80 close to the Russell/Adair county line. State Police say the accident occurred shortly after 1 o’clock Sunday morning when 27-Year-Old Tyler L. Brower of Somerset, formerly of Russell County, was struck by a vehicle while apparently walking in the roadway.   Brower was pronounced dead at the scene by the Adair County Coroner’s Office.  According to State Police,   53-Year-Old Rickie L. Collins of Powell, Tennessee, was traveling west bound on KY 80 when he went over the hillcrest and struck Brower.   Trooper Levi Scott (who’s investigating the accident) said it is believed Brower was walking in an attempt to return to the home of a friend who  lived within 1/2 mile of the collision site. School Board Honors Retirees, Discuss Survey Results...

The Russell County board of education recognized several teachers who retired from the school system this past school year. Retiring staff were treated to a special dinner before last nights meeting and presented with a plaque. Superintendent Michael Ford praised the retiring employees for their hard work and dedication to the school system. The board heard results of two recent surveys, one which was filled out anonymously online by teachers, and the other provided information on students who dropped out this past school year. Body of Missing Jamestown Man Discovered

The body of a Jamestown man who was reported missing Wednesday of last week, was found late Saturday afternoon. Thomas Polston, who resided at the Jamestown Manor, was reported missing Wednesday morning when his brother, Phillip Polston, went to check and him and discovered he was not at his apartment. Members of the Russell County Rescue Squad, Jamestown Police Department, Russell County Sheriff’s Department and family and friends searched for Polston, but were unsuccessful finding him till Saturday afternoon. Polston’s body was found just off Dunbar Drive, which is located behind the Jamestown Elementary School.
