New boundaries for elementary schools were adopted by the Russell County School Board during a special called meeting at noon Monday. The new boundaries are a result of the Board’s decision last month to close Union Chapel Elementary at the end of the current school year.
According to Asst. Supt. Michael Ford the new boundaries will create a “nearly even re-assignment of students currently enrolled at Union Chapel Elementary” up to the 4th grade. Current 5th graders will begin attending a sixth grade academy being developed which will be housed in the Auditorium Natatorium Complex and current 6th graders at Union Chapel will be graduating to the Russell County Middle School as normal.
There will be no change to the boundaries for Salem Elementary. Bus assignments and routes will be made available soon by the school system.
