The Russell County Lakers and Lady Lakers are champions of the 16th District Basketball Tournament! On Thursday night, Coach Willie Feldhaus’ Lakers held off the always tough Clinton County Bulldogs with a 74-65 final. The teams had split two regular season match-ups. On Friday night, Coach Craig Pippen’s Lady Lakers won an unprecedented 4th consecutive district title by easily defeating the Lady Hornets of Metcalfe County 72-48. Both teams advance to the 4th Region tournament next week in Bowling Green. Drawings for regional tournament pairings will be held this weekend.
