Over 200 Families Receive Christmas Food Boxes

Dozens of volunteers fanned out across Russell County on Monday to deliver boxes of food to families in need.

The “WJRS Food for the Needy Drive” has been a part of Christmas for more than 40 years.

Food Drive Coordinator Kem Bell said food boxes were delivered to more than 200 families throughout the county by dozens of volunteers comprised of local church and civic groups, local families who have made this part of their Christmas tradition, and members of the WJRS staff.

Bell said the “Food For Needy Drive” would not be possible without the many volunteers and the generosity of local residents who donate canned foods and other non-perishable food items at local grocery stores during the weeks leading up to the deliveries on Christmas Eve.
