Russell County Grand Jury Returns More Than A Dozen Indictments; Many Sealed

The Russell County Grand Jury held its December meeting on Monday at the Russell County Judicial Center, returning indictments against more than one dozen individuals.  Several indictments were “sealed” per order of Circuit Judge Vernon Minniard, Jr. until the individuals sought are taken into custody.  The following individuals were charged by the Grand Jury and the allegations against them were made public in Circuit Court records:

  • James Passmore, 38 — Intimidating a Participant in the Legal Process; Persistent Felony Offender 2nd Degree
  • Harold Shemwell, 32 — Complicity to Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Methamphetamine Precursor; Persistent Felony Offender 1st Degree
  • Cassie Curtsinger, 20 — Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Methamphetamine Precursor
  • Danny Lay, Jr., 44 — Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree; Persistent Felony Offender 1st Degree
  • Charles Goff, 29 — Flagrant Non-Support of a Child; Persistent Felony Offender 2nd Degree
  • Jonathan D. Atchley, 25 — Flagrant Non-Support of a Child (two counts)
  • Allen Neil Blankenship, 43 — Bail Jumping 1st Degree
  • Karie McAfee, 40 — Bail Jumping 1st Degree; Persistent Felony Offender 2nd Degree

WJRS NEWS reminds you that an indictment “does not imply guilt”.  An indictment is a legal accusation and means “probable cause” was established for the charges and further court action  is warranted in these matters.
