A one vehicle wreck Sunday evening in the Eli community sent a local woman to the U.K. Medical Center and resulted in power being off for several hours in a large portion of eastern Russell County.
Deputy Sheriff Nick Bertram told WJRS NEWS that Elizabeth Ann Johnson, 41, of Hopper Town Road, Russell Springs, lost control of her Jeep Cherokee on Ky. 76 while nearing Clear Fork Road, the vehicle left the roadway, struck a ditch, overturned a couple of times and then struck a utility pole.
Johnson was removed from the vehicle by members of the Eli Fire Department and Russell County EMS. She was airlifted from the parking lot of Superior Battery Company to the U.K. Hospital for treatment of back and other injuries.
The downed utility pole carried a “main transmission line” causing a loss of power to hundreds of residents from Eli all the way to the lake.
Officials with South Kentucky R.E.C.C. say it will take several hours to restore electric service due to the extensive damage
