An earthquake measured at 4.3 on the Richter Magnitude Scale struck southeastern Kentucky late Saturday morning resulting in tremors being felt throughout the Lake Cumberland area. According to Kentucky Emergency Management officials, the quake’s epicenter was near the community of Whitesburg near the Letcher-Harlan County line. Some structure damage was reported later in the day Saturday but no injuries have been reported. Tremors from the quake were felt in numerous sections of Russell County including at WJRS/WJKY in the Middletown community. Our radio stations and the local 911 Dispaatch Center received dozens of calls from concerned citizens soon after the incident.
