News reports from the east coast since Hurricane Sandy hit and a WJRS NEWS interview earlier this week with former Russell Countian, now Wayne, NJ resident Molly Bradshaw Adrian, have prompted a local effort to provide “basic necessities” to as many storm victims as possible in Wayne.

The local disaster relief effort is being headed by Laker Country, WJRS….in partnership with the Russell County Rescue Squad, Russell County Emergency Management and Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency.

The following items are needed most:

  • Bottled water
  • Non-perishable food items (including pet food)
  • Batteries….especially C and D cell
  • Flashlights
  • Toiletries
  • All types of personal hygiene items
  • Infant formula and diapers
  • Blankets
  • Warm clothing of all types – coats, gloves, toboggans
  • Underwear, t-shirts, socks
  • Paper plates, cups, paper towels and plastic utensils

“Basic Necessity” items can be dropped off at the Russell County Rescue Squad building next to WJRS from 8 a.m. til 8 p.m. Tuesday–Friday.  All donated items will be transported to Wayne, New Jersey on Saturday.
