Leveridge, Kerr Re-Elected; Two Incumbent School Board Members Ousted

New faces are coming to the Russell County Board of Education.  Incumbent board members Debbie Haynes and Harry Kimbler lost their re-election bids Tuesday.  Haynes, who serves the 1st District on the school board, was defeated by Brenda Higginbotham by 56 votes.  Higginbotham received 743 votes to 687 for Haynes.  The margin was much larger in the 5th District race where Gerald Murray garnered 928 votes to incumbent Harry Kimbler’s 459.  Higginbotham and Murray will take their seats on the Board of Education in January.

7,777 votes were cast in the race for Russell Circuit Clerk.  Three-term incumbent Tony Kerr, a Republican, overcame a tough challenge from Democrat Barry McKinley.  Kerr garnered 4,174 votes to McKinley’s 3,603.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Matthew Leveridge of Jamestown easily won a second, six year term as the Top Prosecutor for Russell and Wayne counties by defeating David F. Smith of Russell Springs by just over 4,500 votes.  In Russell County, Leveridge received 4,848 votes to Smith’s 2,881.  Leveridge carried Wayne County by a 2 to 1 margin….receiving 4,722 votes to Smith’s 2,101.
