Local fire departments were busy Saturday afternoon and evening.  The Eli Fire Department was called out twice Saturday afternoon to grass fires….with the one off of Ky. 1611 in the Ono community causing moderate damage to a barn.

The Russell Springs Fire Department responded to two fires within minutes of each other Saturday evening.  The first call just before 8:00 p.m. was to a field and woods fire behind 3Trees Church off of West Highway 80.  Fire Chief H.M. Bottom told WJRS NEWS that approximately 20 acres was burned.  Firemen were on that scene for well over two hours.

About 15 minutes after receiving that call, Russell Springs Firemen were dispatched to the Russell Grimsley residence on West 80, across from Stephens Pipe & Steel.  The residence sustained heavy smoke damage and moderate damages from the fire which is believed to have started in the basement area.  Firemen were also on that scene for more than two hours.
