The Russell County Laker Football team was on the road Friday night in Barbourville to face off against the Knox Central Panthers. Both teams came into the game with a record of 8 wins and 0 losses with winner becoming District Champions. Russell County led at halftime 14-0. Knox Central would battle back into the game late in the third quarter, and early in the fourth making the score 28-19 Russell County. The Lakers would go on to score a late touchdown, and put the game out of reach with the final score Russell County 35 Knox Central 19. Offensively, the Lakers were led by RB Nick Britt (#28) with 28 carries for 194 yard and one touchdown. Britt also had one reception for 44 yards and a touchdown. LB Mason Short (#34) had a big night defensively for the Lakers with 14 tackles and one forced fumble. Congratulations to the Russell County Lakers on winning the 6th District Championship. The Lakers will be back home next Friday night which will be Senior Night to face off against rival Adair County.
