A longtime member of the Russell County Board of Education has resigned. Clifford Wilson, who served the 4th District on the School Board for some 25 years, resigned Thursday, citing health concerns. Wilson was first elected in 1987 and has served as Chairman of the School Board for the past several years. Wilson has been forced to miss meetings in recent months due to illness.
According to School Board Attorney Jeff Hoover, the procedure to fill the now vacant seat for the 4th District on the School Board will begin with an official announcement of the vacant seat by State Education Commissioner Terry Holiday. Then persons interested in serving on the Board of Education can apply to Holiday’s office for consideration with Holiday having the responsibility to select Wilson’s replacement.
