** Funeral services for Judge Eddie C. Lovelace will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Albany Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at the church at 1:00 p.m. Thursday. The Campbell-New Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A long time public official in Russell and surrounding counties has died after a short illness. Circuit Judge Eddie C. Lovelace of Albany died Monday night at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville after suffering a stroke late last week. He was 78.
Lovelace served as Clinton County attorney from 1966 to 1969, then served as Commonwealth Attorney for Russell, Clinton and Wayne counties from 1970 to 1991.
In 1992, Lovelace was elected Circuit Judge after he defeated former Judge Philip Morgan. Although the judicial district was changed to comprise Clinton, Cumberland and Monroe counties Lovelace continued serving as Circuit Judge until his death.
Lovelace also served as Chairperson for the 5th District Republican Party from 1978 to 1980. He was a long time member of the Albany First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce….and two children, Karen Talbott and Chris Lovelace, both of Albany. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
