Family Dollar Store In Key Village Robbed At Gunpoint; Suspect Caught Short Time Later By RCSO & RSPD

The Family Dollar Store in the Key Village Center was robbed at gunpoint just after 3:00 p.m. Monday.  The suspect, a female, was apprehended a short time later by members of the Russell County Sheriff’s Department and the Russell Springs Police Department in the Bernard Ridge community.  According to RSPD Chief Joe Irvin, 24 year old Jessica H. Walker has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery.  Walker was taken into custody by Deputies Nick Bertram and Clete McAninch.  Deputy Bertram told WJRS NEWS he observed a vehicle matching the description given to police immediately following the robbery at a mobile home near the Deputy’s residence.  Moments after Deputy Bertram approached the woman in the vehicle, she put the car in gear, and ran over Deputy Bertram’s right foot while attempting to flee.  She was taken into custody a short distance later after her vehicle was “boxed in” by Deputies Bertram and McAninch.  Police report recovering from the car Walker was driving over $200 cash stolen from the Family Dollar and a 9 mm handgun, reportedly stolen in Bowling Green.  Walker is lodged in the Russell County Detention Center on charges of Robbery 1st Degree, Receiving Stolen Property-Firearm, and Theft By Unlawful Taking.  Additional charges are likely as the investigation continues.
