Wednesday was a very busy day for local police and emergency services agencies as more than a half dozen wrecks, several with injuries, occured throughout the day.
- 8:15 a.m. — Russell County Deputy Sheriff David Cain investigated two wrecks on the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway, both of which rain and wet roads were contributing factors. According to Deputy Cain, the first accident occurred around 8:15 when a vehicle hydroplaned, left the roadway and struck an embankment. There were no injuries reported in that wreck.
- 9:50 a.m. – One person was injured during a rear-end collision on the parkway which occurred during heavy rains and low visibility. Deputy Cain says Charles Fulton of Louisville was operating a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado truck and rear-ended a 1982 Ford pickup being driven by Robert Ward of Williamsburg. A passenger in the ford truck, Kathy Ward, also of Williamsburg, struck the dash and windshield during the collision. Ward was taken by ambulance to the Russell County Hospital where she was treated and later released.
- 12:00 noon – A two vehicle, rear-end collision occurred on East Highway 80 at the intersection of Sharon Ann Drive. Officer Chasity Shirley of the Russell Springs Police Department told WJRS NEWS the wreck occurred when a Dodge van being driven by Jerome Summitt, age 36, of Louisville, rear-ended a Chevy GEO which was stopped in the eastbound lane, waiting to make a left turn, being driven by 33 year old James Skaggs, III of Russell Springs. Skaggs was transported by ambulance, Summitt by private vehicle, to the emergency room at Russell County Hospital where they were treated for injuries sustained during the collision. A passenger in the van, Latisha Goff, age 23, of Jamestown, was not injured.
- 2:15 p.m. — Deputy Sheriff Clete McAninch says 76 year old Clayton Roland of Hwy. 1383 was seriously injured when he reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel of his Saturn car while southbound on Ky. 1383, resulting in the vehicle leaving the roadway, striking a culvert and then flipping onto its top. Roland was transported by the Russell County EMS to the Russell County Hospital where he was admitted for treatment of head and neck lacerations and other injuries.
- 2:40 p.m. — Two Russell County High School juniors escaped serious injury during a single vehicle crash that occurred on Voils Road. Russell Springs Police Officer Chasity Shirley says Sean Hammond, 16, of Russell Springs lost control of the 2000 Pontiac Grand Am he was driving while entering a sharp curve, resulting in the vehicle leaving the roadway and striking a tree. Hammond, and a passenger in his car, Trevor Spears, also 16 and from Russell Springs, were both taken by ambulance to the local hospital where they were treated for neck and chest injuries and then released.
- 2:45 p.m. – An accident occurred involving a car and a Russell County school bus. There were no injuries during that collision.
