Kenny Pickett Apparently Will Be Next Superintendent

Interim Russell County School Superintendent Kenny Pickett apparently will be hired on a full-time basis.  At Monday night’s Board of Education meeting, the “Superintendent Search Committee” joined the school board members in executive session to discuss the interview process and their recommendation.  More than a dozen persons applied for the Superintendent position following the June 30th retirement of longtime Superintendent Scott Pierce.  After meeting with the Board for about 10 minutes in closed session, the “search committee” exited the meeting room and the School Board continued meeting in private for  another ten minutes or so.  After returning to open session….with no discussion of the search committee’s recommendation….Board Member Steve Kerr made a motion, which was seconded by fellow board member Debbie Haynes, calling for board attorney Jeff Hoover to enter into contract negotiations with Pickett with the terms of the contract to be reviewed and voted on at a future meeting of the school board.  Kerr’s motion received unanimous support.  Pickett has been serving as Interim Superintendent since Pierce’s retirement.
