A Lincoln County man is believed to have drowned Saturday evening in Lily Creek on Lake Cumberland. Russell County Emergency Management Director H.M. Bottom told WJRS NEWS the body of James Keith Burchett, age 32, of Kings Mountain was recovered Sunday at 12:35 p.m. after being located by a “Side Scan Sonar” system used by the Pulaski County Rescue Squad. Russell County Coroner Larry Skaggs says an autopsy will be performed Monday at the state medical examiner’s office to determine an exact cause of death. Burchett was with a group of friends on a “small, private dock” about a half mile from Lily Creek boat ramp when he went missing around 7:00 p.m. Saturday. Divers with the Jamestown Fire Department responded and searched extensively Saturday night for the victim but to no avail. Members of the Russell County Rescue Squad, assisted by Boating Officers from the state department of Fish & Wildlife, searched the area with a special underwater camera until 2 o’clock Sunday morning at which time the recovery efforts were suspended. The recovery efforts resumed at 8:00 a.m. Sunday and involved members of the Russell County Rescue Squad, Pulaski County Rescue Squad and KY. Dept. of Fish & Wildlife.
