Lakers Win District…Cross Pitches No-Hitter
The Russell County Laker baseball team won their second consecutive 16th District baseball championship on Wednesday night, defeating Metcalfe County 12 to 0 at Clinton County High School in Albany. Junior Martin Cross pitched a no-hitter for Lakers to pick up the win. Cross started shaky, walking two batters in the top of the first before Laker second baseman Bryson McFall turned an unassisted double play. Cross then settled down the rest of the way, striking out six Metcalfe County batters and did not give up a hit. The Laker offense was also in high gear. Several players got at least two hits, including Dillon Downey, Bryson McFall, Blake Aaron, Hunter Best, Taylor Hutchison, Jared Coffey, Tyler Robertson. The Lakers now advance to the 4th region tournament next Monday at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Regional pairings and game times will be announced Saturday. Named to the 16th district all-tournament were Bryson McFall, Dillon Downey, Martin Cross, Hunter Best, and Tyler Robertson.
