Mayor Hollis DeHart reports construction costs for the new City Hall to members of the Russell Springs City Council during Thursday night's meeting.
The Russell Springs Council held its first business meeting in the new “City Hall” Thursday evening. Mayor Hollis DeHart reported that the 6,200 square foot building has cost substantially less than originally projected saying the latest figures show construction costs to be at $43 per square foot, a lot less than the $60 estimation before construction began.
Mayor DeHart thanked the members of the Russell Springs City Council for their support in building a new city hall saying the previous location had become too small to operate city business and was increasingly in need of repairs. The Mayor praised all city employees for their untiring efforts during the various phases of the construction project and pointed out it was the employee’s efforts and dedication that resulted in construction costs being some $60,000 less than initially projected.
Blacktopping of the parking lot, putting awnings on the building and a few relatively minor projects remain to be completed. City officials are planning an “Open House” for the community to be held in late April or early May but the exact date has yet to be determined.
