Basketball season ended Wednesday night for the Russell County Lakers who were defeated by the Warren Central Dragons 50 to 45. The game remained close throughout all four quarters with neither team gaining more than a 7 point advantage at any time. Russell County led 16 to 13 at the end of the first quarter but Warren Central went into the locker room at the half with a 3 point advantage, 31 to 28. The Lakers shot 36.6% from the field compared to the Dragons’ 54.5%. Robbie Bell hit 2 free throws with under 20 seconds to go in the game to get the Lakers to within 1 point but Warren Central scored another field goal followed soon thereafter by 2 free throws to win the game 50 to 45. The Lakers end the season with one of the best records in school history posting 21 wins to only 4 losses and another district championship. Russell County loses 7 seniors….Bryson McFall, Adam Justice, Lucas Justice, Zach Carney, Robbie Bell, Kyle Burchett and Jordan Best. Laker Coach Willie Feldhaus credits these young men for taking the Laker basketball program to another level. Feldhaus says he could not have hand-picked a better group of young men from anywhere in the country.
