The Russell County Lady Lakers are champions of the 16th district in girls basketball after defeating the Lady Dawgs of Clinton County last night in Albany by a score of 55 to 41. The Lady Dawgs jumped out to an early lead but the Lady Lakers fought back and went to the locker room at halftime up by one point. The Lady Lakers carried that momentum into a hard fought second half, ultimately prevailing with a 14 point victory. This is the first district championship for the Lady Lakers in 17 seasons.
