The Eli and Jamestown Fire Departments were called out over the weekend to grass and brush fires. On Saturday, Eli firemen responded to a call in the Mt. Eden community off of Cooper-Creek Spur Road. Fire Chief Ronnie McGaha told WJRS NEWS what began as a small “brush pile fire” quickly spread after winds picked up, resulting in the fire burning approximately 10 acres of grass. McGaha said two small horses were safely removed from the field before firemen arrived on the scene and quick action by the firefighters helped save a small barn. Sunday evening, the Jamestown Fire Department was called to a small fire in a fence row on Stephens Ridge Road. Assistant Fire Chief Mike Rush told WJRS NEWS an area of the fence row, including a tree, was burned. Jamestown firemen were on the scene for less than 30 minutes.
